New Website, Fewer Visitors: How a Relaunch Can Cost You Google Rankings

Hand-drawn wireframe sketches for a new website, planning a relaunch

The new website is live, it looks much better, and a few weeks later the enquiries drop. This happens more often than you would think. And it is rarely down to the design.

What goes wrong in a move

Google knows your old website, its addresses and what is on it. If the new site has different addresses, different text and a different structure, Google has to learn it all again. Without a plan, what you built up gets lost.

Typical mistakes

  • Old addresses lead to error pages instead of the matching new page.
  • Text that was found well has disappeared from the new site or been cut down a lot.
  • Important technical settings are forgotten in the move, for example that Google may read the new site at all.
  • After launch nobody checks whether the new pages arrive on Google.

What a good relaunch does differently

It does not start with the design but with a stocktake: what is found today, and what must not be lost? Then the move is planned, every old address points to the matching new page, and after launch it is checked.

What we do

We plan the switch so that visitors and Google follow the move. In a relaunch we optimise the whole website for SEO, AEO and GEO. Before we start, you get a fixed quote with price and timeline.

In the free first call (30 minutes) we clarify what is at stake on your website.

One short call and you know where you stand – even if we are not the right fit.
